Author Submission Guidelines

Submitting Manuscripts

NOTE to Authors: The Journal of Business Law & Ethics Pedagogy (JBLEP) has transitioned to become part of another Academy of Legal Studies in Business (ALSB) publication–The Journal of Legal Studies Education (JLSE)–as a segment entitled “Teaching Notes”. Please see additional information below about how to submit to JLSE.

The Journal of Business Law & Ethics Pedagogy (JBLEP) is committed to disseminating teaching ideas related to business law and ethics. In May 2024, the Journal merged with another ALSB journal–The Journal of Legal Studies Education (JLSE)–and is currently accepting submissions for a dedicated “Teaching Notes” segment within JLSE.

The Journal of Legal Studies Education (JLSE) is a publication of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business (ALSB.ORG). Founded in 1924, the ALSB is an association of teachers and scholars in the fields of business law, legal environment, and law-related courses outside of professional law schools. Its members teach primarily in schools of business in colleges and universities, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The now combined editorial board of JLSE and JBLEP invite author submissions of teaching notes on the subject of business law or ethics. These notes should offer timely, constructive, practical, novel classroom exercises or teaching perspectives. The audience for these teaching notes should primarily be directed towards faculty teaching business law in business schools or undergraduate business programs. Teaching note manuscripts should include well-developed exercises, with clear instructions and rationales for using these exercises. If similar exercises or perspectives have been previously published by the journal, authors are expected to explain how their teaching note contributes as an extension of the pedagogical literature. All submissions should be sent to JLSE either via email to JLSESUBMISSION@ALSB.ORG or through the service Scholastica (https://jlse.scholasticahq.com/for-authors).

General Guidelines
The journal does not accept previously published manuscripts or those that will be published elsewhere. Manuscripts may be sent simultaneously to other journals on the condition that the journal is advised, and that the author(s) undertake to inform the editor-in-chief and managing editor immediately if the work is to be published elsewhere.

Submission requirements
Title Page: Important: the journal operates a double-blind peer review policy. Please anonymize your manuscript and prepare a separate title page containing author details. Footnotes or references identifying the author(s) should be deleted or placed on the removable cover page. The title page should contain: A brief informative title containing the major key words. The title should not contain abbreviations; a short running title of less than 40 characters; the full names of the authors, email addresses and telephone numbers; the author’s institutional affiliations where the work was conducted, with a footnote for the author’s present address if different from where the work was conducted; acknowledgments.

References are optional; any included citations should be in compliance with Uniform System of Citation, 21st edition reference style.
The journal is properly cited as J. LEGAL STUD. EDUC.

Formatting Requirements
All copy must be at least 1.5-lines spaced with at least one-inch margins. Additionally, the journal is now using Arabic numerals (e.g. “1.” in bold & small-caps for first-level heading, “2.1.” in bold and sentence-case for second-level heading, “2.1.1.” in sentence-case for level-three headings, and no-numbers but indented / italicized / sentence-case for level-four headings) for section headings instead of Roman numerals. Please use this new numbering format for your submission.

Tables, Figures, Supporting Information
Figures, supporting information, and appendices should be supplied as separate files. You should review the basic figure requirements for manuscripts for peer review (https://authorservices.wiley.com/asset/photos/electronic_artwork_guidelines.pdf), as well as the more detailed post-acceptance figure requirements.

Editorial and Peer Review Process
The JLSE operates under a double-blind peer review model. Papers will only be sent to review if the Editor-in-Chief determines that the paper meets the appropriate quality and relevance requirements. In-house submissions, i.e. papers authored by Editors or Editorial Board members of the title, will be sent to Editors unaffiliated with the author or institution and monitored carefully to ensure there is no peer review bias. Articles editors assist at various stages of the process. This journal follows the core practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and handles cases of research and publication misconduct accordingly (https://publicationethics.org/core-practices). This journal uses iThenticate’s CrossCheck software to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts.

Copyright
Authorship
All listed authors should have contributed to the manuscript substantially and have agreed to the final submitted version.
Copyright & Licensing
Authors may choose to publish under the terms of the journal’s standard copyright agreement, or Open Access under the terms of a Creative Commons License
